Anon 6:25 - the straw man of the war on religion (christians mostly, but not exclusively) is getting ponderous. No one is forcing you to hang with gays, marry gays, get an abortion, drink alcohol, bear false witness, sacrifice animals or bow to idols. Church properties aren't subject to property tax, even though some congregations are into open political advocacy, on both sides. I see no evidence to "ostrasize" anyone - passage of this ridiculous bill and others demonstrates great deference to the religious squawkers all over the country. The republican majority seems intent on finding problems that don't exist to fashion their little version of heaven on earth, to the detriment of those who aren't buying in.

Besides Mike Pence himself and the hangers-on who thought they could ride his coattails to a job in the West Wing ... We will never again see a President come from Indiana.

Presidents come from big electoral states. Obama - Illinois, Bush41/43 and Johnson - Texas, Reagan and Nixon - California. Carter and Bill Clinton were oddities - Carter rode the post-Watergate resentment of Government into the White House in 1976 and Clinton took advantage of a sour economy in 1992 plus a third party candidate in Ross Perot that tipped the election in Clinton's favor.

My how the pendulum certainly has swung on this issue! So ironic gay rights activists are now demanding the very thing they preached against not too many years back. Their message used to be one of tolerance and the need for people to be respectful of others' lifestyles, choices and beliefs. Now it has morphed into a demand to ostracize anyone who doesn't share their views. They were right then; they are wrong now.

There are myriad Hoosiers who've never heard of Freedom Indiana who are appalled that Gov. Pence refused to say in that Stephanopolous interview whether it should be illegal under state law to discriminate against gays and lesbians.

Isn't he supposed to be governor of ALL the people of Indiana? Not just those who are as narrow minded as he is?

I am no fan of Mike Pence, voted for him once for governor and probably will never cast a vote for him again, but I agree with you, Gary, that Pence handled himself well against the liberal Democrat media apparatchik George Stephanopolous' one-sided, bait-trap questions. The simple truth for many of us gays is that Freedom Indiana's vile, deceitful media effort regarding the RFRA is what provided Mike Pence and the State Legislature with the high road on the issue that they never could have achieved on their own if it had it not been for the deception and hate FI conducted in its landslide campaign loss and plummeted media image among Hoosiers where RFRA is concerned. As a long-time member of the local gay community, I am dismayed and disgusted with the face of intolerance and bullying and hate that this Freedom Indiana group falsely portrayed us gay, lesbian, bi, and transgendered persons to be.

That George Stephanopolous is a closted gay is news to me and as a gay person I don't care at all one way or the other except that some of us actually have the courage to be who we are; what is NOT news to me is that Stephanopolous is a shallow, liberal Democrat hack who himself is intolerant of others and who shoots questions from the safety behind the mike and the camera that are inherently unfair to the interviewee. But this is the tactic of liberal Democrats... lie, distort, deflect.... shout and curse and shut dissent down any way possible.

Finally, I've recently been discriminated against because of my sexual orientation and even my HIV status (and by an attorney, no less!), BUT I AM ALSO DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BY FREEDOM INDIANA and my entire community when I and my like-minded LGBT friends are ostracized and attacked for holding political views other than the "accepted" politically correctly line of left liberal Democrat views.

I am weary of out gay left liberal Democrat career politicians, some on our Council, who use marches and walks expressing "outrage" against lawfully enacted legislation (I am not saying I agree or condone but hey, it's lawful legislation) to further their political careers with gays and lesbians and "the poor" and "the children". Why can't we unite as a fabric of all communities rather than put up walls of intolerance?

My experience with liberal Democrats and socialist left of center liberal Democrats is that they are the most unhappy people on the face of the planet and they are always "angry" and unhappy about almost anything and everything.

The self-elected people at the very top of Freedom Indiana are seeing the fruits of their negative diatribes filled with intolerance, bullying, and hatred come home to roost. And they have no idea why that is so.... which is the most disappointing aspect of all.
